FAQ's

Q. How much space do you require in order to work on my vehicle?

A. Very little. We frequently work on vehicles parked in fairly tight car parks. Generally speaking, if there is enough room on each side to open the door and enter the vehicle, we will be able to proceed.

Q. I have an inclined gravelled driveway, is this ok to work on?

A. Yes in most circumstances. If there is any doubt as to the suitability of a surface in terms of safety, we will ask to move the vehicle to a more suitable area.


Q. I have a punctured tyre. Will you be able to repair it?

A. Hometyre will only repair tyres in accordance with BSAU159 (see safety and maintenance for details). Rest assured, however, that if a tyre is able to be successfully repaired and reused, we will be happy do so.

Q. Do you deal with agricultural tyres for tractors?

A. We’re sorry, but no. We do not have the facilities to deal with these vehicles.

Q. Do you replace tyres on motorcycles or scooters?

A. We’re sorry, but no. We do not have the facilities to deal with these vehicles.

Q. I have a caravan. The wheels have tyron bands fitted. Are you able to change the tyres?

A. Yes. All our technicians are familiar with the safe removal and replacement of tyron bands .

Q. I have made a booking but need to change the time and/or date. Is this o.k.?

A. Certainly. We accept that everyone’s plans can change unexpectedly and will be happy to accommodate any difficulties you may experience in keeping a specific time. We would politely request as much notice time as possible in order for us to plan rerouting or book another customer into your time slot.

Q. How do you balance my wheels?

A. Our service vehicles are equipped with computerised wheel balancers designed specifically for mobile use. We use lead free clip-on balance weights and adhesive weights for alloy wheels.

Q. I have suffered a blow out on the road and require immediate attention. Do you offer an emergency service?

A. Unfortunately no. The nature of our service is such that our vehicles usually have a pre-planned route to adhere to. If there is any way possible for us to get to you, however, we will always try.

Q. I have lost the adaptor to remove the security locks on my wheels. What can I do?

A. Call us. We are able to remove certain types of security devices but we will need more information from you first.

Q. What is the law for tread depth limits within the UK?

A. For more information, go to UK tyre law. However, to briefly outline it for you –

The law states that cars and light trailers (including caravans) up to 3500kgs gross vehicle weight and/or eight seated passenger vehicles (including the driver), must have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread depth in a continuous band across the central three quarters of the tread width, throughout the entire circumference of the tyre .


Q. Is there anywhere you can’t fit tyres?

A. Only places that represent a danger to you, our technicians or members of the public and areas that may restrict access for emergency service vehicles. We’ve worked on vehicles on a mountain top in Wales to a rooftop in Shrewsbury!!
