It is crucial that motorists ensure their tyres are kept in good condition.
Such is the assertion of Michelin which points towards its Fill Up With Air study revealing that UK drivers are among the worst in Europe for having tyres which are not inflated to the right levels or in some other way damaged.
Indeed, the study indicates that 36 per cent of British motorists drive with tyres deemed to be in dangerous condition, with six per cent taking the wheel while they have a puncture.
"Tyres are the only thing keeping a car on the road and it's all too easy for drivers to take them for granted and not treat them with the utmost care and attention that they deserve," Peter Snelling, head of communications for Michelin, claims.
He points out that not only can cars with incorrectly inflated tyres be less safe to drive but they also consume more fuel due to increased rolling resistance.
Earlier this week, car accessories manufacturer Ring Automotive claimed maintaining tyre pressure can not only help the environment but could also save motorists money.
