Road salt 'can damage tyre rubber'

Car tyre salt damage safetyDrivers who are looking to buy tyres online may want to consider the importance of dealing with road salt.

According to Autoglym, the large amount of salt found on the UK's roads can have serious implications for motorists who do not take every safety precaution before starting their journey.

Paul Caller, chief executive officer at the organisation, suggested that drivers should look to remove salt and grime from their car's wheels.

He stated: "Road salt can speed the corrosion of unprotected paintwork, as well as damage exposed plastic and rubber surfaces."

Mr Caller went on to recommend "a thorough wash, followed by the application of a quality polish or wax".

Such measures could be an important way of ensuring that a car's tyres are fit for purpose when heading out on to the road.

Moreover, drivers may also want to check their tyres' tread depth by inserting a 20p coin into the groove.ADNFCR-2762-ID-19576722-ADNFCR
