Police offer urges driver safety

Safe Driving safety driver police Drivers are being urged to keep an eye on their speed as the colder temperatures set it.

Speaking to the Thetford and Brandon Times, chief inspector Mike Bacon, of Suffolk Police's Roads Policing Unit, points out that if drivers are not careful there could be an increase in the number of serious accidents over the next few months.

The office points to the work of the Suffolk Road Safety Partnership and various partners such as Suffolk County Council and the Highways Agency, in its attempts to reduce serious collisions as part of its "No Excuses" campaign, which focuses on the three Es - enforcement, education and engineering.

And while the overall number of serious injury collisions has fallen, he states that fatalities in 2009 are higher than they were last year.

He states speeding is a major reason behind such accidents.

Those concerned that the winter conditions could mean they lose control of their tyres while on the road may do well to check their tread levels, as the Retail Motor Industry Federation recently claimed this should be a depth of at least 1.6 mm before the cold sets in.
