Drivers who think ahead and ensure that their tyres are inflated properly can deal with the snows of winter more effectively, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
The organisation recently gave its opinion on how car owners can complete their journeys amidst the tough weather, which included the suggestion that it is vital to make sure tyres are in a good condition.
Peter Rodger, IAM chief examiner, suggested that there are certain tips that drivers may want to take on board.
He said: "Going too fast is dangerous, but going too slowly can cause real difficulties as well."
For instance, Mr Rodger noted that in snowy conditions motorists need to decrease speeds to remain safe, but when tackling a hill they should drive "fast enough to give you the all-important momentum".
Previously, the body had argued that car owners should use dipped headlights in falling snow in order to be visible to pedestrians and other motorists.
