Cleaner cheap tyres 'on the way from Avon'

People on the lookout for cheap tyres may be intrigued by news that Avon Tyres has announced it will use clean oil for a selection of its products.

This follows an EU ruling which states that certain tyres sold across the continent from January 2010 will need to contain eco-friendly oil with low traces of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Regarding the developments, the company's Peter McNally said: "We've been working hard with the change to clean oil over the last two years because, if we want to sell tyres in Europe next year, we have to make this change."

As such, the move could be a further step towards environmentally-friendly motoring across Europe – customers seeking cheap tyres may be intrigued to learn.

In the wider automotive industry, the Finance and Leasing Association recently reported that car sales were up by 18 per cent in October compared with the equivalent month in the previous year.
