Goodyear recently unveiled new Biolsoprene technology – which could prove to be an eco-friendly motoring solution for anyone after cheap tyres.
The tyres are produced with renewable biomass – instead of using petrochemically-produced ingredients – and were demonstrated at an event in Copenhagen.
Jesse Roeck, director of global materials science at the company, suggested that the technology could prove to be environmentally beneficial.
The expert stated: "The development of Biolsoprene could help us reduce industry impact on the environment by applying renewable raw materials in the supply chain and making Goodyear less dependent on oil-derived products."
Drivers may have to wait until 2013 to test out the tyres – when the product is expected to become commercially available.
In other eco-motoring news, the recent Europcar Observatory survey showed that UK drivers are possibly less sympathetic towards environmental car issues than their European counterparts.
For instance, 45 per cent of motorists in the UK claim to have changed their driving habits for environmental purposes – compared with 54 per cent of those in the continent.
