The availability of cheap tyres could be closely linked with currency fluctuations, according to an expert whose comments may interest drivers who are considering whether to splash out on motor upgrades.
Mike Wise, Kwik-Fit fleet head, suggested that the retailers in the tyre market have undertaken transformative changes ahead of 2010.
He is quoted in Tyrepress as saying: "Tyre prices increased by more than ten per cent during 2009, but I anticipate a period of stability in 2010 unless there is a spike in oil or raw material prices or the pound weakens further against the euro."
Mr Wise also predicted that tyre prices will not be increased significantly, despite the upcoming return to a 17.5 per cent rate of VAT.
Elsewhere, motorists may already be aware that the EU will introduce a tyre labeling system which will intend to help consumers make an informed choice regarding fuel efficiency and issues of noise.
