Mobile EV Tyre Fitting in Sheffield – Hyundai IONIQ 5 Rear Tyres Replaced Due to Age-Related Cracking

A repeat Hometyre Sheffield customer recently booked a mobile tyre appointment for a Hyundai IONIQ 5 after concerns were raised about the condition of the rear tyres.

The vehicle was located in Sheffield, allowing the work to be completed at the customer's home without the inconvenience of visiting a tyre depot. Although the initial enquiry was around a possible repair, inspection showed that the rear tyres were badly cracked and required replacement.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Tyre Replacement in Sheffield

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a fully electric vehicle, and like many EVs, it uses larger Extra Load tyres designed to support the vehicle's weight and performance.

For this appointment, we fitted two Kumho PS71 SUV tyres in size 235/55 R19. The tyres were fitted to the rear axle, replacing the aged and cracked tyres already on the vehicle.

As part of the visit, we also replaced two TPMS valve stems. TPMS valves are an important part of the tyre pressure monitoring system, helping the vehicle detect pressure loss and alert the driver if there is a problem.

Why Tyres Can Crack With Age

Tyres do not only wear down through mileage. They can also age over time, even when tread depth still appears healthy.

Exposure to sunlight, changing temperatures, moisture and long periods parked in one position can all contribute to cracking in the rubber. This is often seen on the sidewalls or between tread blocks and can become more noticeable as tyres get older.

In this case, the rear tyres still had strong tread depth, but the cracking meant replacement was the safest option. This is a good reminder that tread depth is only one part of tyre safety.

Front Tyres Recommended for Replacement Due to Age

During the same inspection, the front tyres were also checked. They still had approximately 5mm of tread remaining, but early age-related cracking was noted.

The customer was advised to consider replacing the front tyres during summer 2026 due to their age, mileage and visible cracking. This kind of forward advice is useful because it gives the customer time to plan ahead rather than waiting until the tyres become urgent.
