Vauxhall Zafira Tourer Wheel Alignment (Tracking) in Chester

We recently headed out a client who’s partner had fitted two new track rod ends to the steering mechanism due to excessive wear. Being nearly 20 years old, this Vauxhall Zafira Tourerwas in dire need of an adjustment anyway!

Replacement of these steering components will always require a subsequent wheel alignment check, as they are key to the setting of wheel alignment. The steering track rod had been set with an excessive amount of ''positive toe'' on the front wheels. Leaving it in this position would have lead to very rapid wear of the outside edges of the front tyre treads and generally poor handling / roadholding. Using our specialist laser wheel alignment gauges we were able to bring the wheel alignment back to within the manufacturer's tolerance and all while the customer carried on her working day.

How can you tell if it’s an issue with the alignment or something else?

Alignment will always wear on the one edge. Whether it be the outside or inside edge, it can be quite clear to see. However, if the tyres are wearing on both edges or even just the middle portion of the tyre then it will be an issue with the pressure;

  • Middle wear only is a result of the tyre pressures being too high.
  • Both outsides wearing is a result of the pressures being too low.
