Q&A with Hometyre.
Q. Why should we come to you instead of going to our local tyre depot?
A. Hometyre come to you, at a time and place of YOUR choosing, including some evenings & weekends. Our prices are very competitive and we generally beat most static sites on price.
What could be easier? You don't need to waste your time stuck in a garage!
Q. How do we pay? Must we pay in advance?
A. All of our vehicles carry a secured chip & pin machine & we only take payment once work is completed. (Debit card prefered). The exception to this is only when purchasing winter tyres, where we do ask for a payment upfront to secure delivery from the wholesalers.
In all cases, our work is guaranteed, and we are fully insured, so if you should have any concerns, we will happily come back to sort them out with you.
Q. Do you supply new tyres for vans as well as cars?
A. Yes - Hometyre only sell new tyres and not only for cars; but also vans, 4x4's, caravans, motorhomes, trailers, horseboxes, & performance cars, we even fit tyres to vintage vehicles with inner tubes where fitted!
Q. What about specialist tyres?
A. We can supply and fit almost any type of tyre up to a maximum 25" rim & including runflat tyres, track tyres, original manufacturer tyres & many more.
Q. Now that winter is here what about snow tyres?
A. If by Snow tyres you mean winter tyres, then yes, we have access to a vast supply including a range of all-season tyres if you're looking for something to use in all weather conditions?
Q. My tyre is flat, do I need a new one?
A. Not in all cases! If it is repairable and economically worth doing for you, then we will repair it to British Standard BSAU159. We will simply need to ask you for your tyre size in order to bring a replacement tyre with us - just in case!
A flat tyre can be caused by quite a number of things: a foreign object in the tyre tread (nail, screw etc), a leaking valve, leaking rim (wheel). All of these can often be fixed. We cannot however, repair any damage to the tyre shoulder, or sidewall.
Hometyre do not carry out repairs to runflat tyres.
Q. My front tyres are wearing badly on the inside, why is this?
A. A frequent cause of this problem is the tracking (wheel alignment). This can easily be knocked out of tolerance by hitting a kerb or pothole - or just through natural wear and tear as the vehicle ages. This is something that we at Hometyre can correct for you using precision laser alignment equipment. All we need is a fairly level surface and access to your vehicle for around 45 mins to an hour. Incorrectly set Tracking can cause a number of problems including: uneven tyre wear, poor handling under cornering or braking, a misaligned steering wheel, and increased fuel consumption. We can also carry out a full 4 wheel alignment, this is a little more complicated and will take around 1 hour 30 mins.
Q. Why do you recommend putting new tyres on the rear?
A. It has been scientifically proven that in a skid, most people can do something with the front wheels as they can steer into the skid, but the rear tyres need the most amount of grip to stop you sliding. With this in mind, we always recommend putting new tyres on the rear, and moving the old tyres to the front. This can also even out wear, allowing your tyres to last longer. There is a small charge for doing this front to rear swap, due to the work involved, and the old tyres will be checked and re-balanced before fitting.
Q. I have lost my locking wheel nut adaptor, and need my tyres changing - do I have to go to a garage to get the nuts/bolts off first?
A. Not any more! This is another job we can handle at your address! All Hometyre vans carry specialist tools that can remove almost 100% of locking wheel nuts/bolts without damaging your wheels - provided they have not been previously overtightened.
Q. If you remove my locking wheel nuts, will you supply a new set?
A. Unfortunately no. There are so many different varieties of size, length, bolts, nuts, thread size, with or without revolving collars etc. We will ensure that your vehicle is drivable (where possible) and leave you with a sample of those removed in order for you to visit an auto accessory shop or main dealer to purchase a new set.
Q. I have tyre sensors in my wheels and one has stopped working, can you fix it?
A. We cannot repair the TPMS sensors themselves as they are sealed units, but we can supply and fit a new sensor. These sensors are designed to last for between 5 & 7 years, so if yours are of that age, then it might be worth having them all changed?
Note: From Jan 2012, any vehicle fitted with TPMS valves will have them checked as part of the MOT system.
Q. What If I want Tyre pressure sensors adding to my vehicle, can you retro fit a set?
A. Yes we can supply and fit a complete system including a dash mountable monitor. This system will not only monitor the pressures and warn you of any decrease, but will also monitor the tyre temperatures. The system we install can be used on 2, 4, 6 or 8 wheeled set ups. So you could have just a caravan monitored, a car and caravan or a motorhome. The pressure sensors themselves are located inside the wheels and replace the existing valves.
Q. I am having tyres fitted to my caravan, can I have Tyron bands fitted as well?
A. Absolutely! We are Tyrons' UK preferred supplier and fitters of Tyron safety equipment (bands and tyre pressure sensors). If your caravan already has them fitted, then we can also remove them, replace tyres and refit them - please call for details.
Q. Why should I use Hometyre, what make you special?
A. Hometyre technicians are given rigorous training in all aspects of tyre replacement, tyre repairs, tyron band & TPMS fitting, etc. We provide a special one to one service, we will always try to give you the best advice on the condition of your tyres and what if any replacement will be suitable for your type of driving.
Our service vehicles are kitted out with the latest tyre changing equipment, and we bring this entire service to your door. Why consider anything less?
I have made a booking but need to change the time and/or date. Is this OK?
Certainly. We accept that everyone's plans can change unexpectedly and will be happy to accommodate any difficulties you may experience in keeping a specific time. We would politely request as much notice time as possible in order for us to plan rerouting or book another customer into your time slot.
