Winter tyresWinter tyres, by Hometyre

Just because it hasn't snowed in the south, doesn't mean you shouldn't consider winter or all season tyres.    These tyres are designed to work in temperatures of below 7oC. At these lower temperatures summer tyres loose their elasticity and braking distances increase. So to keep your vehicles safe on the road, you really should consider the change.

Run Flat tyres, by HometyreRunflat tyres

Hometyre service vehicles can fit Runflats up to a 24" rim size, including original manufacturer tyres for BMW's, Mercedes & Mini's.  Runflats are designed to get you home or to a place of safety, they are not designed to be repaired, and if you have them repaired you may invalidate your cars insurance.  We at Hometyre will not offer to repair a runflat, we will bring a new tyre to replace your existing one in the case of a puncture.

With such a mild Winter, are you already considering getting your van ready for the season? Hometyre can supply and fit most makes of tyre on Caravans and Motorcaravans, without the need for you to drive your vehicle to a tyre dealer.  We will bring the entire fitting service to wherever you keep your vehicle, at home, a storage facility or even a camp site.  We can supply  8 ply tyres, and will ensure that when we jack up your vehicle it is done correctly . The caravan club recommend changing your caravan tyres every 5 to 7 years regardless of tread left if inflated to under 50PSI, and recommend changing them every 3 to 5 years if inflated to over 50 PSI.

Tyron bands, by HometyreTyron Bands

A recommended safety feature for Leisure vehicles. Often when you tow a vehicle it is difficult to know when you get a puncture. Tyron bands will at least keep you on the road - giving you the ability to drive on a deflated tyre for a limited distance, without too much loss of handling. Hometyre technicians have been trained by Tyron UK in the correct methods of fitting their safety equipment, and by using Hometyre, we will come to you to do the fitting.

So if you want tyrons fitting correctly call Hometyre.

Puncture Repairs  Repairing punctured tyres - by Hometyre

At Hometyre we believe in repairing a tyre if it is at all possible.  We can repair a hole up-to 6mm in diameter as long as it is within the central 3/4 of the tread area. We will also check inside the tyre to make sure that it has not been 'driven flat' resulting in damage internally to the side walls.  We cannot repair damage to the side walls or shoulders of the tyre also we cannot repair runflat tyres..
Slow punctures can generally be repaired..... we strip off the tyre and depending on what we find, may clean up the rim, add a sealer, new valve and refit the tyre.

TYRE Tread and the Law.
The law requires car tyres to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre. To help you to judge  how much tread you have on your car tyres, manufacturers often mould tread bars at roughly 1.6mm.

Tread depth Indicator

The images to the right illustrate the visual  differences between a worn and a serviceable tyre. Checking within the grooves of your tyres, you will notice regular small raised blocks. These are tread depth indicators. When the tread block of your tyre wears even with any one of the multiple tread wear indicators, it is time to call us to arrange new replacement tyres.

The tread wear indicators are preset at 2mm. It is recommened that tyres should be considered for replacement when they have 3mm of tread depth remaing. At 3mm, the tyre would only have 1.4mm of remaining legal depth!

Recently I have been called out to two customers where a local garage had told them their tyre tread was low, and the tyres needed changing.  In both cases there was still 5 to 6mm of tread left.  I advised the customer not to change the tyres at the moment and showed them how to check the tyre tread depth themselves. So if you want an honest assesment call hometyre, the Mobile tyre service you can trust.
